The Collie community is one step closer to having a fully refurbished health service, after the first of three stages to the $7.8 million Collie Health Service was completed.

The Liberal National Government’s investment to upgrade the centre was made possible by Royalties for Regions funding.

Regional Development Minister Terry Redman said it was improving primary health care services and the project supported 90 jobs.

“Projects like this help people in rural and remote WA access vital services that those living in Perth and larger centres take for granted,” Mr Redman said.

Health Minister John Day said the phase one completion included an upgrade to the administration area, refurbishments to the hospital entry, medical records room and outpatients loan equipment facilities.

“The second phase includes staged emergency department refurbishment, with a new reception and triage area, waiting room and three acute treatment bays,” Mr Day said.

“The third and final phase will encompass two resuscitation bays, a treatment room, a clean utility/medication room, staff base, write-up room and ambulance bay.”

Liberal candidate for Collie-Preston Elysia Haverson welcomed the completion of the first phase of construction of the new facility.

“A town’s hospital is one of the most important pieces of infrastructure so it is crucial this important community facility is maintained to a high standard and the best care is available for the community,” Mrs Haverson said.

“The hospital will provide a top level of health care for Collie residents and ensure they can get the services they need here in town and not have to travel to Bunbury or Perth away from family support.

“Upgrades to Collie Hospital will ensure vital health services remain in Collie well into the future, and Collie remains a strong regional town.”

The full redevelopment is expected to be completed in April 2017.
