Community groups share in lunch money

South Western Times

Seven South West organisations are expected to share in more than $100,000 next year following one of the region’s biggest fundraisers.

The money will come from the 2014 Chefs’ Long Table Lunch, to be held on February 23.

or the event, 550 people will be seated at the Bunbury Pat Usher Foreshore for a banquet that raises money and promotes strong communities and families.

The seven beneficiaries are Bunbury Meals on Wheels and Senior Citizens’ Association, the Heal for Life Foundation, Build Up Zone Nurture Works, Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre, Bunbury Sea Rescue, City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club and Milligan Centre Learning and Resource Centre’s Street Soccer.

Lunch co-founder and committee member Leonie Kershaw said it was difficult to choose seven beneficiaries out of 30 worthwhile submissions.

“To know that we’ve been successful in helping community groups is a wonderful feeling,” she said.

The Heal for Life Foundation aims to help people who have suffered from childhood trauma, depression and anxiety.

Fundraising director Penny Garvey said the money the foundation would receive would help 10 adults and 10 children who had suffered trauma.

Senior Citizens’ Association president Alan Hogg said he was elated when he found out Meals on Wheels and the Senior Citizens Association would receive funding.
