Concert aids bushfire wildlife

Animals may not be big concert-goers but they will be the big winners when Rock ’n’ Roll High and FAWNA host the first ever Wildlife for Wildlife concert in Bunbury later this month.

The concert, a brainchild of Louise Kirk from the Bunbury music school, is aiming to raise funds for the Fostering and Assistance For Wildlife Needing Aid group, a not-for-profit organisation from Busselton dedicated to caring for sick and injured Australian wildlife.

Mrs Kirk said the idea came to her after last year’s bushfires in Margaret River and surrounds.

‘‘I was watching news coverage about the devastation caused by the fires and it occurred to me that while people have insurance animals do not,’’ Mrs Kirk said.

‘‘I wondered who was going to care for them.’’

Mrs Kirk decided to hold a fundraising concert where a hundred per cent of the profits were donated to the cause.

‘‘Everyone has been great, just so supportive,’’ she said.

‘‘All the bands we contacted about playing for the benefit said yes without hesitation.

‘‘Bunbury City Council even waived the hire fee of the Graham Bricknell Music Shell which was very generous and a big help.’’

The Wildlife for Wildlife fundraiser will be held on Sunday, January 22, from 11am until 4pm.

Wildlife for Wildlife concert is free for all to enjoy and volunteers from the FAWNA Inc will be collecting donations for the animals on the day.
