COVID in WA: Dalyellup Primary School pre-primary, Year 1 and Year 2 students and staff forced to isolate

Dalyellup Primary School near Bunbury has become the latest West Australian school to have students and staff forced into isolation.

At least one person who was at the school on Monday, February 21 has since tested positive to COVID-19, however the South Western Times understands there were multiple positive cases.

The confirmed case visited three classrooms — Year 1 room five, Year 2 room six and pre-primary ECE1 classes.

Anyone in the same room as the positive cases at the same time has been listed as a close contact and will now need to isolate for seven days from the time of their interaction.

The school communicated the news to families on Wednesday.

“Dear parents/carers and staff. This is important information from WA Health,” the letter read.

“I am writing to advise you that there have been positive cases of COVID-19 at Dalyellup Primary School.

“They attended the Year 1 Room 5, Year 2 Room 6 and Pre-Primary ECE1 classes while infectious on Monday, 21 February.

“All students and staff who were in Year 1 Room 5, Year 2 Room 6 and Pre-Primary ECE1 classes at the same time as the cases, are deemed a close contact by WA Health and should get tested immediately and quarantine for seven days from exposure.

“These students and staff can return to school on Tuesday, 1 March, provided they have not developed any symptoms and have returned either a negative PCR on day six or RAT on or after day seven.

“If students or staff are unwell, they should stay home until symptoms clear.”

The school has not been listed as an exposure site because all staff and students are contactable.

It comes after five new South West cases were recorded on Wednesday, with a warning from the State’s Chief Health Officer Andy Robertson that WA had a “small window” of opportunity to manage an Omicron peak before the flu season arrived.

DPS becomes the second South West school to have students and staff forced to isolate, after a positive case visited Allanson Primary School near Collie earlier in February.

The positive case visited a mixed Year 2/3 class.

Amid the new cases, just one new South West exposure site was listed, the Blue Manna Bistro in Dunsborough, with visitors between 4.45pm and 6.30pm on Saturday February 19 being urged to monitor for symptoms.
