Cricket: Goodwin's best take on big guns

South West cricket legend Murray Goodwin is excited for this weekend's Bunbury Volkswagen South West Regional Cricket Challenge, as he leads the next generation of stars into battle.

Goodwin is the captain-coach of the South West All-Stars, which will compete against Bunbury District Cricket Association premiers Hay Park, WACA premiers Joondalup District Cricket Club and the WA Imparja side in Saturday's round-robin tournament at Hay Park.

Some of the biggest names in WA cricket will play at the event, including Perth Scorchers-listed player and Imparja captain Michael Bailey and Netherlands international player Michael Swart.

Goowdin has selected a mixed squad of youth and experience, which he hopes will benefit from exposure to high level cricket.

"I think we have a handy mix," he said.

"It's about giving the youth a go and giving some South West players exposure to quality play.

"Hopefully with the older guys in the team the younger players will learn something."

The Redbacks are expected to reveal their team tonight.
