Cricket: Time for Dardanup to stand up

South Western Times

It is first against seventh at the Bunbury Recreation Ground on Saturday afternoon, but if anybody thinks BDCA leaders Colts will have a cake walk against lowly Dardanup Bushrangers they need to think again.

A dismal underachieving season by a team loaded with talent sits heavy on the shoulders of proud leader Ben Cooper.

On their day the Bushrangers can match anyone, but a succession of close decisions has sapped their confidence.

The last time they met, Colts crushed the Bushrangers by eight wickets.

The first clash between the two was a big day out for all-rounder Matt Foreman, the classy lefthanded opener stroking 75 not out and together with current Cricketer-of-the-Year Michael Norris 96 gave Colts a massive 169-run start.

Both stars from that first game were missing last week with standin Englishman Daniel Smith stroking his maiden major league half century and together with Paul Reynolds and skipper Murray Goodwin, guided Colts to a 20-run win over Harvey-Benger.

Clayton Caltsounis has climbed to the top of thewickets ladder and could be the youngest player to take out that award should he continue his fine season.

Leschenault, lying comfortably in fourth spot will have a keen eye n the Harvey-Benger versus Eaton match at Harvey where they will be hoping the Beavers test the Bulls and better still, record the boilover of the season — but that is unlikely.

Harvey-Benger will win the match.

The question here is by how much.
