Colourful and crazy artworks began arriving at Bunbury Regional Art Galleries last week for the Bunbury Biennale.

Nearly 30 artists will have their work exhibited in the event, held every two years, after being selected from a pool of 100 entries.

Bunbury Biennale curator Caroline Lunel has taken on the task of preparing the exhibition for the opening night of the Bunbury Biennale on Saturday, June 13.

Ms Lunel said working out where to place each artwork was the exciting part of the job.

“The exhibition is on two different levels so it’s about creating something that is cohesive,” she said.

“It always excites me to see the brilliant mind of an artist – especially young artists because they are so positive.

“I love the job but you are exposing yourself in the same way that the artists do.”

Ms Lunel said the high standard of work at this year’s exhibition would impress audiences.

“We’ve got artwork from across the State and half of the artists are from regional WA, while a few are from the South West from places like Bunbury and Margaret River,” she said.

“The idea behind the exhibition is to challenge and educate people on the latest trends in the art world.

“There is an emphasis on cutting- edge work and there is a balance between young and emerging artists and established artists.

“I think it’s going to be an exciting exhibition and there is a buzz on the opening night as people look at the artwork.”
