A 45-year-old Australind man died on the Coalfields Highway yesterday, after being hit from behind by a Toyota Hilux ute.

There have been three fatalities on the notorious highway within four weeks.

Sgt Gerard Murphy said the Australind man was riding his bike west along the highway, about 8.5km east of the South West Highway, when he was hit by the car shortly after 4pm.

The Australind man was returning home after finishing his shift at Worsley Alumina.

``For some reason he (the driver) has failed to see the cyclist and hit him from the rear,'' Sgt Murphy said.

Attempts by passers by to revive the man failed.

The Major Crash Investigation Section from Perth attended and will be conducting further investigations.
