Cyprus surgery is Lisa's only hope
Lisa Blakeney is in a wheelchair and needs 24-hour supervision, with a surgery which costs thousands of dollars her one saviour, yet one of her main concerns is making sure no one else suffers like her.
Mrs Blakeney suffers from Tarlov cysts, which are cysts formed within the nerve-root sheath on her spinal cord, which without surgery could leave her without the use of much of the lower half of her body.
After being told numerous times by doctors and surgeons they could not do anything, her and her husband Allan have found a surgeon, Dr Frank Feigenbaum, who operates out of the United States and Cyprus and has a 97 per cent success rate.
The 39-year-old mother of two said she faces no other solution and is seeking Dr Feigenbaum’s treatment. They are now arranging the funds to cover the costs to fly over in April.
“If I don’t get this surgery I will be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life, as once you lose the nerves you can never get them back, ” she said. “I can’t sit for long, I can’t lay for long, I am not sleeping. It is just wrecking my life.
“I am lucky we have such good friends and family because we can’t get a carer, they have been fantastic.”
The Blakeney’s have received financial help so far from friends and family but are waiting for a charity from Rotary to be set up to reach the $70,000 mark.
