Dalyellup model thrilled with Top 50 spot on TV show

South Western Times

The chance to be in the running to be Australia’s next top model was an incredible self-confidence boost, according to Top 50 finalist Dalyellup resident Monique Du Plessis.

Miss Du Plessis, 22, said she could barely stand when she found out she had been chosen as one of 50 young women in the country with a shot at the highly televised and coveted model position sought after on Australia’s Next Top Model.

“I encourage everyone to give this a shot if you want to be a model,” she said.

“If nothing else, it makes you feel good about yourself.”

The show premieres on television next week and follows the challenges of young women vying to become the next big thing in the modelling world.

For Miss Du Plessis, her Australia’s Next Top Model journey began months ago when she went to the show’s Perth auditions.

“There were so many pretty girls, I didn’t think I’d get accepted,” she said.

“But they made us take off all our make-up and let our hair down, they were looking for natural beauty.”

Standing at 185cm, Miss Du Plessis said her height probably helped her get chosen.

After making it past the initial audition, Miss Du Plessis went to the Sydney finals where the top 50 were chosen.

Throughout the process she met Australian model and the show’s new judge Jennifer Hawkins.

“Jennifer has a really soft personality, she was lovely,” Miss Du Plessis said.

“The judges were both intimidating and inspiring, they gave lots of feedback.”
