‘Danger’ bout Friday

Fresh from his first professional win, one of Denning Boxing’s favourite sons Daniel McGlashan will front up against an MMA star in the hope of keeping his perfect boxing career record intact.

Last month McGlashan knocked out his opponent, Kyle Dean, in the first round at the Eaton Recreation Centre in front of about 1000 people.

Now he hopes a fight for major WA boxing promotion, the Western Alliance, will have his name placed on fight cards across the State and country.

This Friday night at the Fighting for Kira fight event at the WA Italian Club, he will face Perth MMA fighter Steven Kennedy who only has one professional boxing fight under his belt.

The 27-year-old Kennedy is a seasoned campaigner in the cage and is no slouch when it comes to throwing a punch, with six knockouts or TKOs in his 15 professional fight wins.

McGlashan said the fight at 86kg would be a tough challenge.

“I know he doesn’t have much boxing skills, I know he is more of a Jiu Jitsu guy, but I am not taking that as an advantage because he might have a fair bit under his belt now, ” he said.

“I am going in there to box and keep him off me because he will try to tie me up. I am going to use my long reach to my advantage.”

McGlashan hoped the fight lasts a little longer than his last to get some much needed in-ring experience, but admits if the opportunity arises he would deliver the knockout blow.

Nathaniel May, who also trains out of Denning Boxing Gym, is scheduled to be the main event of the night when he meets Indonesian James Mokoginta for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Youth super featherweight title.

CDL Boxing Promotion’s Western Alliance event Fighting for Kira will be held at the WA Italian Club on Friday from 6.30pm.
