DEC closes recreation areas, tracks

South Western Times

Department of Environment and Conservation has advised in a media release that its recreation and camping sites in national parks, State forests, regional parks and other DEC managed areas south-west of a line between Jurien and Bremer Bay will be closed from 9am tomorrow.

The Bibbulmun Track and Munda Biddi Trail are currently being cleared by DEC staff and will be closed over the weekend.

All other tracks and trails also will be closed.

DEC Regional Services Director Peter Dans said that the closures were because of the possible threat posed by severe tropical cyclone Bianca.

DEC rangers will be visiting areas in the parks today and early tomorrow to warn people of the dangers of being in natural areas during a cyclone.

Mr Dans also said that DEC recognised the closure could upset people’s plans for the weekend but that the department placed a high priority on its duty of care to people’s safety.

DEC will update information on closures through the media and on its website www.dec.wa.gov.au.
