Demolition rubble hits the road

South Western Times

The big job of removing rubble which has been piling up at the former St John of God Hospital since major demolition work began has started.

Four to five trucks will run continuously from the Edward Street site to a site in Yookson Road, Picton where the material will be crushed for recycling.

The trucks are allowed to operate between 7am and 5pm, Monday through Saturday.

Brajkovich Demolition and Salvage Pty Ltd director Adrian Brajkovich said the City of Bunbury had approved a traffic plan for the removal of the material.

‘‘We started the separation and cartage of the material this week,’’ Mr Brajkovich said.

‘‘There are four to five trucks operating on rotation to minimise disruption to traffic through the area.’’

Mr Brajkovich acknowledged that there has been excess dust in the area during the demolition but said it was hard to prevent.

‘‘When the mechanical demolition process is over we can operate the water to minimise the dust,’’ he said.

‘‘The loads will be watered down prior to leaving the site to reduce dust movement during transport.’’

Mr Brajkovich estimated the work to continue for another six to eight weeks.
