Donnybrook's fruit-filled fun day
This Saturday’s annual Donnybrook Food and Wine Fest is catering for people who like their weekends fun, frivolous and fruit-filled.
The free event takes place on the banks of the Preston River where there will be a wide variety of familyfriendly entertainment including children’s activities, live music, more than 50 local produce stores, wine and olive oil education.
The festival is now in its sixth year and has grown in popularity since its inception.
‘‘Over the last five years the numbers — which have been in the thousands — have expanded,’’ Donnybrook Food and Wine Fest president Pam Foster said.
‘‘We expect about 3000 people to visit this year,’’ she said.
Major highlights include entertainment from local country music singer Kate Hindle and live food demonstrations from last year’s My Kitchen Rules Perth contestants Daniela Pirone and Stefania Muscara.
Committee member Geraldine Knox believes the presence of these much-loved contestants will draw crowds.
‘‘With the addition of Daniela and Stefania we expect a tremendous success,’’ Mrs Knox said.
The pair plan to make the most of their Italian heritage with demonstrations on how to make traditional pasta sauces.
But if cooking demonstrations aren’t to your taste, there will be the return of the much loved grapestomping competition, where contestants flick off their shoes, climb into a grape-filled barrel and try to make as much liquid as possible.
It’s sure to be a barrel of laughs.
