Subiaco Football Club has continued its trend of finding mature age recruits from the South West Football League, with Donnybrook vice-captain Simon Parry signing with the West Australian Football League club.

Parry, who has played for the Dons for the past three seasons, will suit up for this year’s grand finalists after a successful career down south.

The 26-year-old has represented the SWFL in the past three Landmark Championship campaigns, being named an All-Star in each year.

Parry joins former South Bunbury midfielder Brett Robinson and Augusta-Margaret River playing-coach Hamish Shepheard at the Lions, with both proving handy recruits.

The last time Parry played WAFL was in 2013, having finished his career at Swan Districts with two colts premierships in 2007 and 2008 alongside the likes of Nic Naitanui, Michael Walters and Chris Yarran.

Parry finished his career with the Swans after 19 league games and 39 reserve matches.

It was a conversation with former Subiaco captain Aidan Parker that led to Parry being selected by the club.

“Aidan was wondering if I would be interested in playing for Scarborough in the amateurs and I told him I wanted to go back to the WAFL,” he said.

“He asked me if I had contacted Subiaco and he set up the meeting for me, which went well.”

Parry said he had “unfinished business” at the State level.

“I have been thinking about it (playing in the WAFL) for a little while,” he said.

“Playing in the State games helped me get the confidence that I could compete.”

Parry said he was looking forward to playing for the Lions, who had played in the past two grand finals.

“Going to a successful club means I have the opportunity to play in finals and maybe even premierships,” he said.

“But my first goal is to get through pre-season and then try and get a spot in the league side.”
