Dons dominate all the way
Donnybrook smashed a struggling Eaton Boomers by 64 points on Sunday at VC Mitchell Park, winning the Peter Butcher Memorial Cup in the process.
Co-captain Curtis Guglielmana kicked five goals while playing in the midfield to lead the home side to a 16.8 (104) to 5.10 (40) victory.
The Dons dominated the match from start to finish, with the Boomers managing just one goal for three quarters of the contest.
Guglielmana was well fed by Brendan Page in the ruck, while forward pair Todd Gregory and Kris Clarkson (both four goals) were outstanding throughout.
The Dons wasted opportunities early, but came out after half-time and kicked into another gear, applying the scoreboard pressure they should have earlier.
Coach Juliann Burgess said he was pleased with the four-quarter performance.
“We had to produce the football we wanted to produce and today we did,” he said.
Burgess said it was good to have half-back Simon Parry back in the side, while Page was instrumental in the victory.
“Page in the middle rucked tirelessly all day,” he said.
“It was one place we were down on last year and we went looking for a ruckman.
“He has been huge for us.”
The Boomers were missing captain Will Oelsnik for the game, but vice-captains Jace Cormack and Tyler Patterson stood up to play great games despite the one-way traffic.
Chris Atthowe was locked in a great battle with former teammate turned Don Cody Miller for much of the game, with both impacting the game at various times when their team needed them.
