Duyfken sails into port
The Duyfken replica will sail into Bunbury this weekend as part of its 1000km journey.
Marking 400 years since Dutch explorer Dirk Hartog and his crew became the first Europeans to set foot on West Australian soil, the ship will be docked in Bunbury from Sunday until September 4.
Tours will be held each day with visitors able to interact with sailing and navigational equipment and learn about the harsh living conditions endured by sailors 400 years ago.
The stop-over is part of the crew’s 10-week journey from Fremantle to Bunbury and back up to Denham.
The ship is known as the most exacting “age of discovery” replica sailing vessel constructed.
The Duyfken will be docked at the pilot jetty at Casuarina Drive and tickets to tour the ship can be bought online through Ticketek.
