Eagles miss Fuhrmann

Dawn Testrow, SOUTH WESTERN TIMESSouth Western Times

Collie Eagles had a double header in round eight of the PrintSync Netball Football League, starting with the Hawks in Margaret River on Saturday where they came away with a one goal win 44-43.

It was a tight game with the shooters from both teams making the defences work hard for every touch and both teams made minimal unforced errors scoring from most of their centre passes.

Emily Bongers and Sophie Kaleta rarely missed their goals for the Hawks and Bec Stewart in goal attack for the Eagles again showed her leadership in the goal circle.

It was a different story on Sunday when Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault travelled up the hill and Collie came up against a very polished team unit.

The Lions had a great start with a 12-6 first quarter with Myra Ugle firing in the goal circle and Nicole Jones a stand out in defence.

Collie made changes and bringing Carly O'Brien into the centre position started to make a difference and by the third quarter the Eagles had stepped up a notch and matched the Lions 12-all for this quarter.

The Lions defence combination of Kate Baker and Jones were too strong for Collie and even though Chelsea Slater and Roxanne Langoulant worked tirelessly in defence for the Eagles, two games in two days took its toll and the Lions ran out with a 52-35 victory.

Eaton Boomers and Carey Park had a great contest on the weekend which kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

Eaton were missing the height of Susan Fuhrmann in goals so brought their tall goal shooter from the Reserves, Bree Fryer, off the bench to work with Gemma Combes and this had an immediate impact on the game.

Fryer relished her role and the Boomers had an amazing 15-8 quarter to lead by three heading into the last quarter.

Both teams scored off their centre passes for the last five minutes and Fryer sunk a long shot in the dying seconds to give Eaton the win 45-44.
