Collie Eagles coach Clint Swallow believes rising star Corey Griggs is at the top of his game after his consecutive best on ground performance led the Eagles to a 29-point win over Donnybrook.

Griggs was one of many stars for the Eagles, who kicked 13 goals in the final three quarters after being held scoreless in the first to win 13.7 (85) to 8.8 (56) at home on Sunday.

“It was an excellent win, ” Swallow said.

“I was really proud of the boys after they started really slowly and worked their way back into the game and played some good team footy.

“The signs look positive for us.”

Swallow believes complacency crept into the Eagles game after their win against Augusta-Margaret River in round one, but the side upped their work rate to finish the game on a high.

The Eagles kicked six goals in the second term and five in the third to dominate the match, with Griggs partnering up well with Adam Bignell (two goals) and Michael Florio (three goals) in the centre.

Captain Matt Blackford was also impressive in the backline, keeping Jeff Smith to one goal.

The Dons never got their running game going. Hayden King was his side’s best for the day, while Milan Kokir and Shaun Towers (two goals) were handy in the contest.
