Eaton Recreation Centre will be transformed into an Anzac commemoration exhibition after it secured a chance to host a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The centre will host The Spirit of Anzac Centenary Experience in January.

It is one of only three locations in WA that will host the national travelling exhibition.

Dardanup shire president Mick Bennett said it was fantastic Eaton had been chosen to host the event thanks to Bunbury City Council recommending the venue.

“We are very grateful for the opportunity to be able to showcase the shire as well as the whole region through this event,” Mr Bennett said.

He said it was anticipated the event would attract visitors to the region. “Eaton Recreation Centre is a regional facility and this is a regional event, so it will be successful,” Mr Bennett said.

The exhibition is dubbed as “highly experiential” with interactive zones telling the story of Australia’s involvement in World War I and all wars, conflicts and peace-keeping operations to the present day.

More than 200 artefacts from the Australian War Memorial will help tell the story.

South West historians will have a special chance to give their input into a community section of the exhibition, which will be tailored specifically to the interests of the region.

The exhibition is free and will run from January 11 to 16, with bookings essential.
