Hundreds of students attended the annual South West Careers Expo at Bunbury Catholic College last week to discover the options available to them when they finish school.

Students from more than 20 schools visited the 45 stalls, which included all five major WA universities and affiliated college accommodations, as well as the Australian Defence Force, South Regional TAFE and a variety of leading apprentice and traineeship providers.

Organiser Catherine Griffin called this year’s event the biggest and best yet, with the move from the school’s hall to the gym an example of its ongoing success.

“It’s just grown and grown over the years,” Mrs Griffin said.

“So much so, we’ve had to move from the hall to the gym to cater for the increase in exhibitors and visitors.

“It’s such a sensational opportunity for students and the local community to get advice on careers and opportunities without having to travel to Perth.”

Nikolas Foster from ABN Training and Dale Alcock Homes was also on hand to show students just how far an apprenticeship or traineeship could take them.

The second-year apprentice took home gold in the bricklaying category of the Regional World Skills Competition last July and is set to jet off to Melbourne this October to compete in the nationals.
