The first major night of racing fires up at Quit Bunbury Speedway on Saturday.

Round three of the AHG Sprintcar Series will take centre stage in conjunction with the Wrek King Sprintcar Grand Slam.

The Maiolo brothers will be front and centre and carry South West hopes for what is expected to be the closest competition in many seasons.

Alongside a five-car Wormall Motorsport outfit, the field will contest for the lead of the annual sprintcar AHG Series.

Andrew Priolo, brother of long-time racer, David Priolo, will be at Bunbury for only his second time, fresh off his first podium finish at Perth Motorplex a couple of weeks ago.

Jason Kendrick, who won at the recent Magic Man 34, will be keen to secure a podium finish in Bunbury and push for the lead in the series.

The support program is expected to be massive with 20 Dirt Late Model drivers contesting the annual Pro Dirt Series.

Bunbury driver Brad Blake, who has touched the podium at both races in Perth already this season, will hope his luck continues at his home track.

He will be challenged by newcomer and now Bunbury resident, Kye Blight, who is in scintillating form.

The Oldfield brothers, Warren and Jamie, are certainly no slouches when it comes to hard racing and will be the toughest test for the Bunbury duo.

Wingless Sprints, with their biggest contingent for the season so far, will be entertaining to watch as will the junior sedans, which have a huge field in preparation for the WA Championship to be hosted at Bunbury later in the season.

Speedway promotions manager Andrew Roberts said the support fields were the biggest in a couple of seasons.

“While the top of the sport is hurting a little, it’s great to see the support divisions are very strong in numbers and great driving talent as well,” Roberts said.

“It will be a great night this Saturday for sure.”

To add to the night, there is $4000 in prizes to give away to the race fans each night of the season from Bunbury businesses.

These include shopping spree vouchers and plenty of others, ensuring every spectator has a chance to win.

Saturday’s action gets underway at 6pm, with gates opening at 4pm. Tickets are available at the gate.
