Fire warnings downgraded

Kate Fielding, SOUTH WESTERN TIMESSouth Western Times

Mild weather conditions over night have helped firefighters and resulted in the emergency warnings for Harvey and surrounding areas to be downgraded.

The fire, which has burnt more than 71,000ha, has been contained by firefighters.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services is still warning the fire is not controlled, but it is stationary with a “few active pockets”.

A watch and act is now in place for Harvey, Cookernup and Yarloop.

DFES has said the alert was downgraded due to favourable weather conditions, bushfire behaviour and the efforts of firefighters.
