Football: Round 4 fixtures

NICK LONGSouth Western Times

If the Harvey Bulls are hoping for an easier game this week after last week’s 81-point loss to the Eaton Boomers they had better think again.

They travel to Payne Park on Sunday where they will find a Bunbury outfit savage over a series of disappointing results.

Last week it was an after-the-siren six-point loss to Carey Park after it appeared the Bulldogs had the game in the bag with a two-goal lead and two minutes to go.

Unfortunately for Bunbury it was not as safe as they thought.

The scoreboard was wrong and a two-goal buffer was actually only one goal.

When Carey Park’s Liam McGuire levelled the scores many Bunbury players still thought they were ahead — not the best information to have with the game on the line.

It is water under the bridge now and all it can do, according to captain Jesse Gribble, is spur the team on this week.

‘‘It was a really dissapointing loss,’’ Gribble said.

‘‘I think we ran out of legs a bit, but we might have taken it a bit easy thinking we were two goals up.

‘‘It makes this week a must-win for us.

‘‘We’ve got to get a win on this board this week.’’

Last year’s Hayward Medallist has hit the 2011 season running and the midfielder is loving the contribution from recruit Michael Griffiths in the ruck.

‘‘He’s been fantastic and is a great bloke,’’ Gribble said.

‘‘It helps that he can get his hand to the ball first most of the time.’’

Gribble is actually delighted with the performances from the club’s three key recruits, Daniel Dalby, Jordan Adamson-Holmes and Griffiths who he says will all play pivotal roles in his club’s quest to move up the ladder.

Dalby kicked three goals against Carey Park and added to the club’s midfield depth, while Adamson-Holmes kicked five goals after taking a while to find his feet in his first game for the team.

‘‘We’ve been looking for a key forward for a couple of years,’’ Gribble said.

‘‘Jordan’s a great target up forward, kicks straight and takes a good grab.

‘‘He looks like he might be the one we’ve been looking for.’’

Gribble believes the loss to Carey Park, a draw against Collie and another narrow loss to Augutsa-Margaret River could have all been wins with some luck—and they do not give an accurate picture of the team’s ability.

‘‘Last year we were really strong, but the team has gone to another level this season,’’ he said.
