Football: Strong side for Landmark carnival

South Western Times

Injuries to several key players are not expected to prevent the South West Football League from fielding a strong side in this year’s Landmark Country Football Championships, beginning next Thursday.

However, the injuries have kept selectors from naming a final squad of 27 which will be done next Monday night.

Coach Crandon Keddie said he was pleased with squad that was coming together.

‘‘The attitude of the players has been great,’’ he said.

‘‘We have had double the number of players to choose from compared to last year.

‘‘They are getting on so well.

‘‘They go to battle against each other all season, but really enjoy playing together.’’

Last year the Peel Football League and the Upper Great Southern kept the South West out of the grand final and they will both be strong again this year as well as the Lower South West National Football League.

Upper Great Southern have won six of the last seven carnivals.

The South West last won in 2008.
