Football: SWFL Round 9 scores and reports

Busselton forward Leigh Kelly booted seven goals to lead his side to an emphatic 125-point victory over Donnybrook at Sir Stewart Bovell Park on Sunday as round nine of SWFL action got under way at the weekend.

Kelly tore the game apart in the second term with four consecutive majors as the home side piled on six-goals-to-one to set up their 25.14 (164) to 6.3 (39) win.

Meanwhile at Kelly Park, former AFL great Jeff Farmer limped off with a hamstring injury and coach John Baggetta was shown a red card in a dirty day for the Harvey Bulls, who went down to Carey Park by 54 points, also on Sunday.

Farmer booted two first quarter goals but hobbled from the field late in the term after taking a sliding mark inside 50. The Panthers ran away with a 19.10 (124) to 10.10 (70) win.

At Glen Huon Reserve, the Eaton Boomers bounced back to winning form with a 30-point win over the Collie Eagles.

The Boomers welcomed coach Alan McDonald back into their squad for the clash. The big forward showed glimpses of his talent and how valuable he will be with a few games under his belt, booting three goals in his side’s 15.11 (101) to 10.11 (71) triumph.

Further south, Bunbury were put to the sword at Gloucester Park – Augusta-Margaret River surprising the Bulldogs with a 20.18 (138) to 9.8 (62) win.

The damage was done early, as the home side exploded out of the blocks with a seven-goal first quarter.

Meanwhile, on Saturday night, South Bunbury skipper Matt Giacci led from the front in his side’s spirited 30-point win over Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault at Brunswick Oval.

Giacci was instrumental for the Tigers, leading a budding on-ball division that included former Eaton Boomer Shaun Crane as they got their season back on track with their second victory of the season, a 17.8 (110) to 11.14 (80) triumph.
