Force aim to build on victory
Bunbury Forum Force defender Jarrad Mort said it was important for the club not to get carried away after Saturday’s drought-breaking 3-1 win over the Western Knights at Payne Park.
Mort, one of Bunbury’s best players against the Knights, said the team was buzzing after securing their first points in more than a month, but said there was still plenty of work to do to avoid relegation from the State League Premier Division.
‘‘It was important to get that win on the weekend because if we lost we would have been on the bottom of the ladder,’’ he said.
‘‘We’ve got some pretty hard games coming up so it was good to go four points clear ofthe bottom with only four games to go.
‘‘There were a lot of positives to come out of the weekend but we still have some work to do to stay in the Premier League.’’
It has been a tough season for Mort, who took a break from the club midway through the season, but he is happy to be playing consistent first team soccer since returning.
‘‘There were a few issues during the middle of the season and I felt it was best to take some time off,’’ Mort said.
‘‘But it’s good to be back and it was great to play in a win on the weekend because I hadn’t played in one this season.’’
Mort credited player-coach Matt Lock for his influence on the club since taking over from Alan Armstrong midway through the season.
‘‘Matt brings a lot of experience to the group and knows what he is talking about,’’ he said.
‘‘We have all regrouped after a few ups and downs throughout the season and we’re all back on board.’’
Only goal difference separates Bunbury and their next opponents Armadale, which it meets at Alfred Skeet Reserve on Saturday, and despite losing 3-0 last time they played, Mort labelled it as a ‘‘winnable game’’.
‘‘The last time we played Armadale it was a horror game for us, but we will be a lot more confident coming into this game,’’ he said.
‘‘Our form wasn’t the best leading into the Western Knights game so itwas good to get a win on the board and hopefully we can build on that on Saturday.’’
Following the Armadale fixture, Bunbury will face Inglewood United (home) and Floreat Athena (away) before hosting Bayswater City in their final game for 2012.
