Force board back on track
Bunbury businessman Albert Nascimento was last night officially given the green light to take over as president of the Bunbury Forum Force.
More than 20 of the club’s financial members attended an extraordinary general meeting in Bunbury, where all positions on the club’s board were up for grabs.
The new board, which includes John McCleary as vice-president and entrepreneur Maggie Newton as treasurer, was elected unopposed.
In the lead-up to the meeting, there had been speculation the position of president would be contested by South West soccer identity James Turbit.
The duo had been locked in a leadership battle since a March meeting that served as the starting point for significant conjecture and confusion over the position of president.
Nascimento said he was pleased to have the leadership spill behind him.
“We’re just happy to get all the issues out in the open they should never have been there in the first place,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to getting on with running the club. There’s a lot to do and we need to get on with the job.”
The vote capped off a turbulent opening to the season for the club, which has already undergone the upheaval of a change of manager.
The Force, who are unbeaten in their past four State Premier League matches, will this Saturday host Armadale SC at Payne Park.
