A near-miss has been described after a pot was left on a stove and nearly caused a fire at an Australind house last night.

Firefighters from the Eaton-Australind Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service were called to the Barnes Avenue address about 7.45pm.

The unit’s Lt Richard Constantine said quick-thinking neighbours had called 000.

“The owners of the property had left the pot on the stove and it started to burn,” he said.

“We went out with some Bunbury career firefighters but by the time we got there the owner had come home.

“A few women had to be treated for smoke inhalation but it shows the importance of smoke alarms because that’s what alerted the neighbours.”
