Former South Bunbury player Fraser Millar returns to South West Football League powerhouse after Elliott Medal

One of the stars of West Australian country football is returning home to South Bunbury this season. Fraser Millar, who played for the club between 2009 and 2014, has joined a growing list of South Bunbury recruits set to play for new coach, former Donnybrook premiership coach Julian Burgess. Millar was the best player in the competitive Peel Football League last year, winning the Ross Elliott medal while playing for the Rockingham Rams. After a colts career at Swan Districts, the midfielder returned to the WAFL in 2016 and featured twice at league level for Perth. He joins a South Bunbury midfield that emerged last season as one of the competition’s best, led by Millar’s former teammate and club stalwart Shaun Crane and star ruckman Tim Sutherland. Millar becomes the club’s second major on-field signing this off-season, joining Hayward medalist and Donnybrook premiership player Jace Cormack, who has also shifted to the club. The Tigers finished fifth last season under club legend and former East Fremantle player Stephen Bilcich, but were knocked out of the finals in the first week away from home against Busselton. Millar’s most recent game for the Tigers was the club’s 2014 grand final defeat against the Eaton Boomers. Only three of Millar’s teammates from that game — Chris Andrew, then captain Matt Giacci and Crane — played league football for the Tigers in 2021.
