Forrest Highway black spot claims another life

A notorious intersection at Forrest Highway near Eaton has claimed another life.

The day after theSouth Western Times reported on authorities calling for action at the Hynes Road and Forrest Road intersection, a 19-year-old was killed when his car crashed at the known black spot.

The Eaton man died after the car he was driving collided with an Isuzu utility travelling south on the highway about 6am on Friday.

He was airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital, but tragically died a short time later.

Police say the man was turning off the highway onto Hynes Road before the collision occurred.

The crash comes three days after a 34-year-old woman escaped serious injury or death when she had to be cut from her car after it collided with another vehicle at the same spot.

TheSouth Western Times can reveal Main Roads WA will be doing a road safety inspection at the intersection on Wednesday.

A spokeswoman said Main Roads WA was aware of the area’s crash history and the inspection had been set up following the first crash last week.

Electronic signs were placed at Forrest Highway and Hynes Road by the department following Friday’s crash as a “temporary measure” to get people to slow down, according to the spokeswoman.
