Funding helps workers become digitally Activ

South Western Times

The skills and confidence of employees with disabilities will soon be given a boost thanks to some well-deserved funding from an Australian company’s foundation that supports community organisations.

Activ’s three South West campuses — Bunbury, Manjimup and Busselton — will share a $10,000 Everyone Connected grant from the Telstra Foundation to promote the digital access of young and disadvantaged people.

Activ employee co-ordinator Sam Price said the money would be used for training and promoting accessibility and would help employees develop skills and confidence.

“Sometimes they use here as a stepping stone to build up their skills and confidence and it will help them if they want to look for further employment down the track,” she said.

Telstra area general manager WA south Boyd Brown said he encouraged Activ to apply for the grants after becoming involved with the organisation and providing them with basketball uniforms.

“The application they wrote in terms of the training and how it would help everyone with their personal and working lives — how could you go past it,’’ Mr Brown said.

“You’ve just got to come here and look at the work they do and you can’t not want to be involved.”

The Everyone Connected grant is part of a celebration for the Telstra Foundation’s 10th anniversary in which 100 Australian non-profit organisations will receive a share of $1 million in grants to go towards digital inclusion projects.
