Funds freed up for Eaton pavilion

Dardanup shire president Mick Bennett has welcomed money from a trust fund to help with the building of a football pavilion at Glen Huon Reserve.

The Eaton Boomers have held money in a trust for more than a decade but the trustees of the fund have agreed to let $265,000 to be used for the pavilion, which is set to begin construction this year.

During a meeting on Wednesday, two of the trustees - Don McCausland and Eugene Tagliaferri - presented Cr Bennett with the money before the councillors voted for it to be placed in another trust fund and be used for the construction and fit-out of the pavilion.

Cr Bennett said he was happy the club was able to contribute with the project, which is set to cost about $4.4 million.

"There have been a few squabbles about how the money was going to be used but it was put aside to be used for a new clubroom," he said.

Cr Bennett said the council expected to go to tender for the pavilion in March, with construction beginning later this year.

Eaton Boomers president Gary Bock said he was pleased the club could contribute the money to the council for the purpose of building and fitting-out of the sports pavilion.

"These funds are provided in addition to the $3 million government funds sourced for the pavilion by club members prior to the last State election," he said.

"We are excited about the prospect of moving into a new state-of-the-art mixed use facility that will benefit both the club and the community"
