As friends of fellow South Australian hip-hop artists Hilltop Hoods, there was little doubt The Funkoars were destined for great things in the music industry.

The band burst onto the hip-hop music scene in 2000 and brought 1980s street justice back into fashion.

Track forward 15 years and the trio is hitting the road on a national tour for The Funkoars' fifth full-length album, _In Case of Emergency _.

Hons, Sesta and Trials - who form the squad of "party-starting pessimists" - are excited about being able to "get up with their homies" on stage at the Prince of Wales Hotel later this month.

Trials said The Funkoars would play a heap of new content from the upcoming album but would also throw some old stuff into the mix.

"Because our back-catalogue is so big, we miss a lot of the early stuff out and every time we finish shows, there is usually someone upset somewhere that we didn't do a certain song," he said.

"So this time we brought something like a big chocolate wheel and it's got a whole bunch of old songs on it.

"We are going to spin it periodically throughout the set and if it hits the old song, we will pull it out of the vault and do it live."

Without revealing too much, Trials promised other "dumb stuff" on stage and confirmed this tour was on The Funkoars' terms - which all three artists were stoked about.

When asked what has kept them in the industry for so long, Trials joked it was because they had been horrible employees in the past.

"We are definitely not good at anything else so I think we are here by necessity," he said.

"If we could do a regular, awesome, rewarding mainstream job, that would be wicked but we are really bad as employees, so I wouldn't wish us upon anyone."

Bunbury audiences can join the fun and DIY ethic of rap music when The Funkoars takes to the stage at the Prince of Wales Hotel next Friday, May 29.
