Hoping to treat their loyal followers to a victory after entering the finals for the first time, the Green Caps copped a six-wicket loss after setting Eaton a target of 154.

A couple of injuries before the start of play with a heavy collision between all-rounders Josh Grime and Mat Hammond during warm-up, restricted the inform Hammond to a short struggle at the crease before retiring hurt and returning later to bat in the tail.

Adding to the Green Caps’ woes, Michael Jones was out with a hamstring injury.

Then came yet another massive man-of-the-match performance by Jimmy Hillery and the Beavers entered the preliminary final to take on Colts at the Recreation Ground next week.

“The result was disappointing as nobody likes to lose but on the other hand my men can hold their heads high,” said Leschenalt club president Angelo D’Agostino.

Grime and Kurt D’Agostino gave their side a solid start of 44 but a flurry of wickets to paceman Jake Boyle put the Beavers in control.

Clint Hewson picked up Grime in a brief fiery spell before tweaking a hamstring and a wicket to Shannon Prentice saw five batters fall for 82 with only skipper Brody D’Agostino fighting grimly in an undefeated captain’s knock backed by a brave hit by returning Hammond.

But the wiles of spinner Hillery was too much for the Green Caps, toppling three tail-enders for 26 runs off 10 overs.
