Hay Park have won this year’s LGM Industries Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association grand final after a neck-and-neck contest against Colts at the weekend.

The eight wicket win was set up after a day one tussle with just 17-runs difference between the two teams, but on the second day shaky batting let Colts down to leave the Hay Park Redbacks chasing just 148 for victory after scoring 165.

The grand final was highlighted by three top batting performances with former English County star Murray Goodwin posting 110 and Cruize Ciallella second top with 31 followed by English import Oliver Westbury treating his fans to a fine 118 as his farewell after starting his Bunbury season with a century.

Westbury posting a scintillating 118 was also supported by “one other”, Mark Steven stroking 57 to continue his good form after his ton in the semi-final.

The second day was a horror filled knock by the Colts who ended on the field with two teenage spectators standing in for injured front men.

Ciallella and Jim Middleton were the pick of the Colts batsmen as the only two players scoring more than 20 with three key top order men, Nick Barr, Ian Prosser and captain-coach Murray Goodwin dismissed before the middle order came in to help Colts stagger to 165 after a strong start.

And largely responsible for that was burly, veteran left-arm paceman Chris Waddingham, leading his team from the front as coach with 3-33 off 10 overs on the first day and 4-38 in the second backed by a brilliant fielding show by Redbacks president Stephen Florance to lead their side to victory.

With just three runs an over required for victory the Redbacks batsmen were able to bide their time and steadily haul in the Colts target set with man-of-the-match Westbury, Steven and Ross Knoll wiping out the deficit in the 46th over for a mighty eight wicket win.
