The Gallipoli Run will come to Bunbury for the first time this weekend as part of the build-up to next year’s Anzac Day centenary.

Runners will honour Anzac soldiers before the race with a minute of silence and the playing of the Last Post.

Sam Rankin will run the course with her children on Sunday and said it was significant that it was held on Father’s Day.

“Normally a fun run on Father’s Day would mean people couldn’t do it, but it would have been predominately fathers who went off to war, ” she said.

Unfortunately her husband, who is training for an Ironman event, will be doing a longer training run on Sunday.

“He’ll try to run with us during some point on the course, ” she said.

“It’s important that kids, who will be the next leaders, understand what has happened before, ” Mrs Rankin said.

“Sometimes I think it’s important to remember where we come from and where we don’t want to be again.”

The Gallipoli Run had encouraged her children to talk about World War I and the Anzac Day Centenary.

Entries close this afternoon and runners can choose either a 4km or 8km course around The Cut from the Naval Cadets Unit on Turkey Point Road.

The Perth Bankwest Gallipoli Run raised has $50,000 in four years for the RSL and Legacy WA.
