The newly-named Bunbury Community Garden is blossoming and Bunbury City Council is calling on green thumbs to get their hands dirty behind the scenes.

The council wants dedicated community members to join the garden’s committee in a bid to grow the patch to its full potential.

With the first seeds planted in February 2014, the garden, formally known as the Withers Community Kitchen Garden, is a community hub for residents.

Community services team leader Deanna Sullivan said an invitation to join the committee was open to anyone interested.

“You don’t have to be an expert in growing fruit and vegetables as the garden is more than just a place to provide fresh, organic produce,” she said.

“It is designed to be a hub where people from all walks of life can come together in a relaxed social setting and do something that benefits the wider community.”

The garden uses compost generated from the council’s green waste collection and has already produced some impressive crops including corn, tomatoes, carrots and Asian vegetables.

The committee will have the choice of what to do with the vegetables.

A registration form to join the committee is available from the council’s website until June 15.
