This weekend will be the last chance for people to walk, run or ride on the George Baxter Boardwalk before it is closed for good.

As part of the upgrade project at Koombana Drive, the popular boardwalk will be closed on Monday and replaced with a marine wall and land-based path.

More than 16 years after it was built, the foundations of the boardwalk are eroding and gaps between the timber boards on the walkway are continuing to widen.

It is expected timber from the structure will be used by Bunbury City Council on other projects around the city.

The upgrade is set to be completed by the end of November.
