Get stuck into road safety
The Australian Road Safety Foundation is launching an initiative it hopes will reverse statistics about the number of pedestrian fatalities around the country.
Greater Bunbury residents are being urged to help make the streets safer by applying ‘Life Saving’ stickers to their garbage wheelie bins.
The big stickers, which feature life-sized images of children stepping towards the road and speed limit signs, are designed to provide a strong visual road safety reminder to motorists.
Foundation chief executive officer Russell White said drivers needed to be sent a reminder that was visual when they were on the road.
“Between January and May this year 67 pedestrians were killed on Australian roads,” he said.
“If trends continue the number could reach or even exceed last year’s number of 165.”
Residents interested in buying a sticker for their bin can contact the foundation’s hotline on 1300 723 843 or email info@australianroadsafetyfoundation.com .
