Get your Feet on the Street

South Western Times

Music, skateboarding tips and art are among the activities to be held at the Vineyard Auditorium, 32 Clifton Street, next to Brecken Health this weekend to celebrate National Youth Week.

The Feet on the Street Youth Festival will feature BMX demonstrations and giant games of chess and checkers as well as live music and workshops in urban art and skateboarding.

City of Bunbury community development officer April ten Brinke said the council had worked with Jobs South West, Headspace, Mission Australia, Investing In Our Youth, Youth Connections, SW Vetlink and the Bunbury Port Authority to put on the event.

She said the event had been built based on “grassroots communication” and the activities reflected the interests of Bunbury’s young people.

Mrs ten Brinke said there would be plenty of up-and-coming bands performing at The Vineyard on April 13 from 1pm to 5pm.

“Popular Perth bands Sun City and Still Water Giants are set to play, as well as Cupidfalls and Buzz Kill Vamps,” she said.

“The event organisers have arranged a range of unique activities to get involved in on the day to create a fun and exciting youth event.”

Mission Australia will be offering body painting activities while youth health organisation headspace will invite people to create postcard art for display.

Headspace Bunbury service manager Nicky Smith said the event was an opportunity to attract young people to services while offering them a fun experience.
