Gig Preview: Bobby Fox at BREC
Bobby Fox had no idea what his future would hold when he stood in line for a sold out Jersey Boys show in New York in 2007.
And if it wasn't for a lady he had never met before giving him a ticket, Fox may never have auditioned for the Australian production the following year.
After a "disastrous" first interview, Fox said it was the casting director who had seen him audition before that encouraged him to try again.
Nine months of practising later, it was finally decided Fox would play the lead role of Frankie Valli.
Throughout his three-year journey with the Jersey Boys production, Fox said meeting and working with Bob Gaudio and meeting Frankie Valli himself were stand-out experiences.
Neil Diamond also came to one of the shows and stayed for a photo shoot where he was jokingly told to "lie down in a swimwear model pose".
"We've got this shot where the entire cast is just laughing," Fox said.
Tom Cruise and James Taylor were also among some of the production's fans.
Playing Frankie Valli was the first leading role of Fox's career which he said was an "amazing experience" that helped him progress as a performer.
Now set to tour his own show Four Seasons in One Night, Fox said audiences could expect a fast-paced show full of anecdotes from his experiences with the Jersey Boys.
Fox promised to deliver something different to other tribute shows with unique personal recounts of stories "straight from the horse's mouth".
"Anyone can jump up and dance at any point," he said.
Fox recruited a four-piece band to join him on stage and said they all had the "Jersey Boys look" and the tones "that type of music needs".
"It will certainly be one of the most legitimate tributes," he said.
"It's unique because I'm using those songs to tell my story."
After a lot of tweaking and perfecting harmonies, Fox said the song and set list were "fail proof".
He will bring his show to the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on April 22. Visit www.bunburyentertainment.com for more information.
