Good-sized snapper reported north of Busselton

Bunbury has been graced with some fine weather in the past few weeks, with plenty of opportunities for the boaters to get out and chase some quality demersal fin fish before the eight-week ban comes into play on October 15..

Customers have reported good-sized pink snapper being caught in solid numbers, as well as some solid dhufish in amongst them.

Squid are starting to fire down in the bay.

But south of Busselton the sizes are still on the low side.

The odd regulation-sized one should start to show up over the next few weeks.

Some anglers are reporting that they are reaching their bag limits, but it appears most fishos are getting are around half a dozen or so.

Casting jigs and slowly retrieving them with pauses and short, rapid jerks of the rod will create an action that will drive the squid crazy.

The South West freshwater season officially re-opened last week with plenty of reports from Harvey Dam way, with trout up to 50cm being recorded.

Remember the size limit is 300mm for all trout species.

And bag limits do apply as well as licence requirements so be sure to find out all necessary information before planning a trip.

The warm weather is on its way.

With this the water temps will rise, bringing with it some northern species such as mackerel and tiger sharks.

Once the temps get back to low 20C degrees it is almost guaranteed both species will be in our local waters.
