Murray Goodwin steered the batting ship as Colts exacted further revenge for last season’s grand final loss to Hay Park, beating the Redbacks for the second time in 2016-17.

Goodwin hit an unbeaten 79 and was ably supported by Joe Barningham, who was also unbeaten in scoring 31 in addition to his three wickets.

The pair guided Colts to victory on their home pitch at the Recreation Ground from a tricky position of 5-123 in pursuit of Hay Park’s 7-196.

Hay Park’s innings promised so much more as they were 0-68, 1-100 and 2-178 before losing a flurry of late wickets.

Barningham (3-39) and Goodwin were influential in Hay Park’s late collapse.

Barningham dismissed the dangerous Jono Whitney after a quick-fire 48 before Goodwin effected the run out of Dave Taylor for 42.

Chris Waddingham and Jono Miller were Barningham’s next victims as Hay Park lost 5-13.

Colts’ openers Tim Hutchison (25) and Jayden Goodwin (16) made slow but steady starts and put on a 46-run opening partnership.

It was a case of chipping away at the total for Colts who were in control at 3-123 before losing two wickets without scoring.

Despite strong bowling efforts from Waddingham (3-23 off 10 overs) and Grant Milbanke (2-22 off 10 overs), the Goodwin-Barningham partnership was enough to guide Colts home with more than an over to spare.

It was the club’s fourth win from five matches this season while Hay Park are outside the top four with a 1-4 record.
