Supporting a cause close to their collective hearts inspired the Grace Christian School community to raise more than $5000 for the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation.

The school held an Adidas Fun Run last term, which involved primary school students completing an obstacle course around the oval, in support of two students who have diabetes.

One of those two, Year 5 student Zara Moroney, was the top fundraiser, contributing $870 to the school’s total of $5340.

She set up an online account with her father to help her fundraising efforts and described the day as “really fun”.

This week, which also coincided with World Diabetes Day on Monday, Zara was given a number of prizes including a GoPro from the fun run organisers for raising beyond a certain amount.

This is the fourth year Grace Christian School has held a fun run and it is planned to continue.

The fundraising cause has changed each year and the school’s head of physical education Quentin Oaklands described this year’s run as a successful event.

“The kids and school community really got behind it because they know Zara and that she has trouble with her diabetes,” Mr Oaklands said.

“It is a good community event, the parents come along to watch and the kids love doing it so they are really motivated to fundraise as well as participate.
