Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers playing coach Ty Harrelson has rejected the notion that he intends to leave the team for the Goldfields Giants.

The Kalgoorlie Miner reported today that Harrelson had expressed interest in the vacant Giants head coaching job.

Harrelson said the Giants organisation had made the first move in approaching him.

“The Goldfields Giants approached me on October 1 when they were allowed to talk to me and told me the head coaching position was going to be available,” he said.

The Slammers guard said his decision to apply for the position was just due diligence on his part.

“You always want to take a look around and see what your value is and who is interested in you,” he said.

“There’s nothing in it to be honest, I’ll probably apply for the head coaching position at Melbourne United as well.”

Harrelson said there was no time frame for a resolution and it would not have an impact on his role with the Bunbury Basketball Association ahead of the start of the season tonight.
