Harvey product Brady Hough named West Coast’s Emerging Talent at John Worsfold Medal night

West Coast young gun Brady Hough has capped off his unexpected breakout season by winning the club’s Emerging Talent award.

The Harvey product was handed the prestigious gong at the Eagles’ John Worsfold Medal night on Friday after managing 15 games in his first season, including a 23 disposal performance in Round 5 against the Bulldogs.

Hough debuted in the first round for West Coast as the team was hit by injuries and COVID protocols, but quickly won selectors over with his gritty defence, versatility and accurate kick.

The defender, who became a shining light for fans in an otherwise horror season, was even given a taste of midfield action, shifting to the wing for the latter half of the season.

The former Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault Lion’s rise to the top has been a remarkable one, having been picked at selection 31 in last year’s draft, despite only having played one senior WAFL match for Peel Thunder.

Hough, who this year signed a multi-year contract extension, joins a long list of big names to have been crowned the club’s breakout star, with previous winners including Chris Judd, Nic Naitanui, Tom Barrass, Luke Shuey, Matt Priddis, Jeremy McGovern, Junior Rioli, Oscar Allen and Chris Mainwaring.

In his speech, he thanked his partner Caitlyn Saunders, who was by his side at the ceremony, as well as his parents, host family and clubmates for their support.

Fellow defender Barrass was named John Worsfold Medallist for best and fairest on the night, beating out Shannon Hurn, Tim Kelly, Jack Darling and Duggan, who rounded out the top five.
