Augusta-Margaret River caused one of the upsets of the season when they defeated premiership fancies the Harvey Bulls by 27 points at Gloucester Park on Sunday.

Midfielder Mitchell Lynn was the star for the Hawks, who defeated the Bulls 7.11 (53) to 3.8 (26).

The Hawks gained a strong lead in the first quarter and it was youngster Declan Childs who kicked the first goal of the match within the first few minutes.

Throughout the first quarter it looked like the match could go either way because despite the Hawks’ scoring power, their ball skills were on par with the Bulls.

The Hawks ended the first quarter with a 20-point lead and the Bulls failing to kick a goal for the term.

A brief downpour in the second quarter did not seem to hamper the Hawks as they widened the margin with the Bulls struggling to get the ball inside their forward 50.

The third quarter saw an additional two goals from the Hawks, while the Bulls made little headway.

However, despite the big margin between the teams, there were many missed opportunities from both sides to hit the scoreboard.

In the fourth quarter the Bulls began to come back, kicking two goals, but despite being goalless the Hawks were able to hold on and record their third victory for the season.

Young Hawks forward Jack Hick continued his excellent form, booting three goals for the hosts.

Lynn was joined by fellow young midfielder Kane Hadden and Childs in the midfield, with the trio working hard to get the young side forward at all costs.

The Bulls now face a must-win game against Donnybrook while Hawks will take on Bunbury at Payne Park on Sunday.
