Heater causes house fire in Harvey

ERIENNE LETTESouth Western Times

A bar heater is thought to have caused $350,000 damage to a two-storey Harvey home overnight.

A Fire and Emergency Services Authority spokesman said the Harvey and Brunswick Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services were called to the blaze on Third Street about 9pm.

It took two hours for crews to get the fire under control.

The spokesman said the blaze was caused by a bar heater which was drying some clothing.

No one was inside the house at the time.

The spokesman urged residents to ``never leave heaters unattended’’ and always have clothing at least a metre away from heaters.
