Illuminating the night with coloured light
Bunbury's foreshore will be covered in a sea of coloured light on Saturday night when the annual Light the Night event is held at Queens Gardens.
Starting from 5.30pm, the annual event aims to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
The Bunbury Community Group has run the event for the past three years and encourages people to buy a lantern and walk along the foreshore after dusk, as well as have a picnic and listen to live music at the gardens.
Bunbury Community Group coordinator Sandra Lankester said she aimed to have up to 150 people involved.
“It’s a good cause because we need the funding to help research a cure for Leukaemia,” she said.
“I am proud to be involved in it. It is a great way to raise money for the foundation.”
Leukaemia Foundation community relationships manager Deb Wilkins said it was a beautiful event and it meant a lot to some people.
“People that have lost somebody carry a gold lantern to remember their loved ones and those with the white lanterns are patients who are doing well, ” she said.
“The blue lanterns are for people who support the Leukaemia Foundation and the work it does.”
